Among the different film genres, mind-blowing films, also known as thought-provoking films, are the most talked about films as they are not easy to make.
To be a thought-provoking or mind-blowing movie, it needs to have a few essential qualities.
The plot should have enough hidden twists to change your impression. The acting in the films has to be top notch as we don't want viewers to guess the next twist.
The director must have a great ability to lead you down one path and secretly draw the curtains to reveal a completely different one.
The audience should also be rooted in their seats after the film, discussing how they were tricked into imagining one thing when the truth was vastly different.
Has this happened to you? Have you left a theater without being able to stop talking about the film for a few days?
Have you ever felt like asking the person next to you what the hell just happened? after the plot was revealed.
The hallmark of a good film is that the audience should be moved enough to remember, discuss, and debate the plot, acting, or storyline.
These movies don't have to be fast-paced or high-stakes action or complicated scripts. A simple like 12 Angry Men is my first memory of an amazing movie that was amazing.
It slowly changed the direction of the entire story without the audience realizing when and how it happened.
That's the power of an overwhelming film. Directors like Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan, Darren Aronofsky and David Lynch are just a few of those who managed to surprise us with their twists and turns in the plot.
Unfortunately, not all programs in this category are successful. In fact, many turn out to be failures as the script may be worth its weight in gold, but audiences weren't stunned enough or too stunned.
Walking the fine line, keeping the film captivating, slowly sinking into the plot and suddenly pulling the rug out from under you deserves an Oscar.
I have compiled a list of such films. Many of the films on this list have won or been nominated for this feat.
